
The City of Lithonia proudly honors individuals, organizations, and initiatives that make meaningful contributions to our community. Through the issuance of official proclamations, the Mayor formally acknowledges significant achievements, milestones, awareness initiatives, or noteworthy occasions that reflect the values and spirit of our city.
Purpose of a Proclamation
A proclamation is a formal declaration issued by the Mayor to highlight meaningful events, causes, or achievements that hold citywide significance. Proclamations may be issued for the following purposes:
- To increase public awareness of important causes, initiatives, or campaigns aligned with the City’s goals and the well-being of its residents.
- To recognize individuals or organizations whose contributions to the City of Lithonia demonstrate exceptional commitment, service, or accomplishments.
- To celebrate the accomplishments or milestones of individuals, groups, or organizations that positively impact the Lithonia community.
- To acknowledge meaningful events organized by individuals, groups, or organizations residing in or conducting business within the City of Lithonia.
Proclamation Guidelines
Applicants must submit draft language for the proclamation, including proposed “Whereas” clauses. All submitted content is subject to review, editing, and formatting at the City’s discretion. The City reserves the right to decline any request at its sole discretion and is not obligated to provide a reason. The Office of the City Clerk will evaluate all applications for completeness, relevance, and appropriateness. To ensure a consistent and fair process, all proclamation requests must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Requests must be submitted at least 30 days in advance of the desired recognition date.
- The subject of the proclamation must have a direct connection to the City of Lithonia or its residents.
- Proclamations are strictly honorary in nature and do not confer legal status or constitute a formal endorsement by the City.
- Individuals and organizations may receive no more than one proclamation per calendar year.
- Proclamations may not be used for advertising, commercial, or promotional purposes without the express written consent of the Mayor.
Any exception to these guidelines requires direct approval by the Mayor.
Proclamations Will Not Be Issued For:
- Matters of political controversy, ideological or religious beliefs, or individual convictions.
- Events or organizations with no direct relationship to the City of Lithonia.
- Campaigns or events contrary to the City's policies.

How to Submit a Request
The Mayor of Lithonia welcomes the opportunity to honor individuals, events, and causes that reflect the values and spirit of the community.
To request a proclamation, please complete the Proclamation Application, including your draft language and proposed “Whereas” clauses. Submit the completed form via email to:

Review and Approval Process
- Once received, the City Clerk will review the request and may contact the applicant for additional information or clarification.
- Approved proclamations will be prepared and signed by the Mayor.

Receipt of Final Proclamation
Applicants may choose one of the following options for receiving the official proclamation:
- Presentation at a Sponsored Event
The proclamation may be presented at an event hosted by the requesting individual or organization, subject to the availability of a City representative.
- In-Person Pickup
